Vitamin B12 Deficiency

Vitamin B12 is the largest and the most complicated nutrient required by our body. It helps to maintain our nerve cells, as well as transporting oxygen throughout the body with the help of RBCs (Red Blood cells).

Causes:

It has direct relation with the absorption of food in our body. When the ability of our body to absorb food gets lower, this type of deficiency occurs.

This occurs most of the time due to our diet which lacks proper vitamin supplements, or following strict vegan diet and high level of alcohol consumption.

How to identify if you are suffering with the deficiency?

Firstly, you can go to lab, and ask for the doctor to take Vitamin B12 test.

Or else, you may experience the following conditions:

  • Fatigue (not able to complete the task of the day)
  • Lethargic (feeling low or less energetic)
  • Memory loss (difficulty in remembering things occurred in past)
  • Weak muscles
  • Fast heart's rate
  • Dizziness
  • Loss of appetite
  • Sudden weight loss
  • Mood swings (more often)
  • Pale skin or Yellow skin

How to treat this deficiency?

Let's see this diagram first for those who love non-veg, and also for those who were vegetarians earlier, now wanted to try non-veg to stay away from any kind of deficiency.

You can avoid taking too much of Dairy products in one go, as it can lead to irregular periods (in case of females), constipation, and deficiency of other vitamins. Taking anything in a manner and amount is always advisable.

If you are seeking any medical treatment, then your doctor could write you some supplements, or if your Vitamin B12 is extremely low, then doctor might recommend you some chewable tablets, normal pills, or high dose of vitamin shots

You can reduce the dependency on pills by doing stretching exercises, acupuncture, acupressure, or supplements.

Ignoring your health and related issues in this deficiency can lead to memory loss at one stage, heart problems, permanent depression and other bones related problem.
