Why and How cyclones named differently?
The cyclones names are so different each year is due to:

This naming process started back in 2004 by WMO (World Meteorological Organization), Geneva, Switzerland. but the process started in 2000. It took 4 years to name cyclones for consecutive 6 years. WMO divided the world basins into many parts or regional centers called Regional Specialized Meteorological Centers (RMSC) There are total six regional centers across the world. India has one named Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), with it's center in New Delhi, the capital.
It also has 13 member Nations including India named:

- Typhoons in the China Sea and Pacific Ocean.
- Hurricanes in the West Indian islands in the Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean,
- Tornados in the Guinea lands of West Africa and southern USA,
- Willy-willies in north-western Australia and
- Tropical cyclones in the Indian Ocean.
To answer How,
Some of the Indian names of the cyclones are Leher, Megh, Sagar, Agni, Bijli, Akash, Jal and Vayu, while those suggested by Pakistan include Nilofar, Titli, Varda and Bulbul in previous years.
However, the new list includes names like - Gati, Tej, Murasu, Aag, and so on.. The list was ended after the cyclone named Amphan, therefore, when the first list will be fully used the naming would continue from the list 2 and the procedure will go on.
Some of the popular names of cyclones include Helen, the name given by Bangladesh, Nanuk by Myanmar, Hudhud by Oman, Nilofar and Varda by Pakistan, The cyclone which hit Odisha and Andhra Pradesh was named Titli by Pakistan.
Whereas, the cyclones who resulted enormous destruction and death, their names have been removed from the list and does not get repeated.
While, in some parts along with India, the name of the cyclones, hurricanes, typhoons named after Girl and Boy in alternative years. This is because, people after 1953, started questioning the male dominant society, so to realize the importance of females, cyclone naming after Girls/Females started. It is also believed that female names were given to tropical storms as they are often more violent and hardly predictable at times. therefore, stronger storms are named after Women to tell them the destruction level.
